Welcome to the Sioux Empire Kennel Club (SEKC).

The SEKC is a group of dog lovers, both purebred and mixed breed. The objective of the club as stated in the Constituion is:

  • to encourage and promote the quality of purebred dogs and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection.
  • to urge the members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which dogs shall be judged.
  • to conduct Sanctioned Matches, All Breed Shows and Obedience Trials under the Rules of the American Kennel Club.
  • to promote responsible, enjoyable pet ownership by the general public through scheduled professional training classes offered for all dogs.

We offer classes four times a year in the winter, spring, summer, and fall. Classes offered are Puppy Obedience, Obedience I and II, Conformation and Agility. Volunteers are always needed for instructing and assisting with classes.

Volunteers are also needed for stewarding at our Fall Show. Ring steward #1 assists the judge in the ring and prepares the ribbons, Ring steward #2 checks in the dogs and hands out the numbers. Stewards are also needed for the Obedience competition, which runs concurrently with the dog show. Obedience stewards are responsible for checking in the dogs and handlers, and also for ring set-up.

The Agility Trial is held in the summer. Help is needed for time keeping, score keeping, course set-up and general odds and ends.

Our board meets the first Tuesday of the month. If you have something you would like the board to discuss, contact one of the board members in writing. All club members are eligible to hold office after one year of membership.

Our general membership meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month. These meetings are held at the clubhouse. Dogs are welcome at the general membership meeting with the exception of occasional meetings which are held off-site.

A member may request the clubhouse combination after two years of membership. If a member would like to practice at the clubhouse, you may gain access to the building with one of the groups who practice regularly. Any member is welcome to join these groups. Contact the club secretary or a class instructor for dates and practice times.

Children are always welcome at the clubhouse, however, they are not permitted to "play" on any of the clubhouse equipment. The equipment is for dog training purposes only.

You will notice various plaques and boards in our clubhouse. One of these plaques is for 'New Member of the Year'. This is awarded to a new member who has given that extra 10%. We also have our 'Outstanding Member' plaque. This is awarded to a member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Both awards require a lot of hard work and often long hours. The 'Honor Roll' is a list of dogs and titles earned.

Each year we hold an Awards Banquet. Various awards are given to recognize members and their dogs who have worked hard throughout the year. Our Awards committee keeps track of all titles, points and certificates earned. The information must be turned into the Awards committee to be verified before an award can be given.

The Canine Courier is our monthly newsletter. When a member has received a title or points, please send the information to the editor of the Courier to be printed in the 'Brags & Wags' section. If a member has some information to share or a story to tell, you may send that in also. The deadline is the third Tuesday of each month. Class schedules, board meeting minutes and general membership meetings are also published in the newsletter.

There are various committees who do ongoing work for the club. If you are interested in becoming involved in a committee, please inform the club secretary. Please keep in mind that committees may not have openings available at any given time.

We encourage you to get involved in the Sioux Empire Kennel Club. It is a great opportunity to meet new friends and have fun. It is also a wonderful learning experience.
